How RLT Supported Brittany Ford's Fertility Journey, Plus Top Tips for Your Fertility Journey

This article was written by Sophie Atkinson, Brittany Ford

For many, the fertility journey can be an interesting one. It’s a step into the unknown and can be a rollercoaster of emotions; from excitement to nervousness and even frustration.

When biohacking influencer Britany Ford was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) in 2020, she started researching how to optimize her health for conception. She was facing irregular cycles and a cyst, along with the condition she had just been faced with.

But, just a year after learning about holistic health and the power of light, she found herself pregnant following efforts to boost health for conception.

The health educator, podcaster, and nutritionist now uses her platform of an almost 50,000-person audience on Instagram to share her story and the significance of optimizing health.

At Kineon, we were lucky to sit down with Brittany and learn more about her experience.

The early stages of the fertility journey

Like others, it’s when a diagnosis occurs that we’re first led down the path of learning more about our bodies and health.

Despite leading a healthy lifestyle, Brittany suddenly discovered she had PCOS. “It propelled me into an in-depth exploration of my hormones and menstrual cycle, confronting irregular cycles and the challenges of potentially having PCOS,” said the health educator.

It was two years later, in 2022, when she ventured into understanding how to optimize her life for conception.

“I found the advice available to be rudimentary at best—simple suggestions like taking prenatal vitamins and avoiding alcohol seemed insufficient. I was convinced there had to be more I could do.”

In October of the same year, the Canadian embarked on a journey to enhance her health with the intention of conceiving in October 2023.

“I dove into holistic health practices, lifestyle adjustments, biohacking (including red light therapy), refined my diet, and integrated specific, research-backed supplements with a singular focus.”

A plan was created to boost hormonal health

Through her research and meticulously documenting every step, she created the ‘Baby Steps Protocol' which was a 90-day plan for her and her partner to follow.

Remarkably, after following the plan down to the dot, Brittany and her partner conceived on their first attempt in October 2023, despite having ongoing irregular cycles, a hemorrhagic cyst, and mild PCOS.

The plan included integrating red light into a daily routine, making lifestyle adjustments, and refining her diet. Brittany believes the red light was a huge component in her fertility experience.

The red light approach piqued her interest as it has been shown to improve circulation, reduce inflammation, boost mitochondria function, enhance hormonal balance, promote stress reduction, and improve skin health.

What is red light therapy?

Red light therapy (RLT) is a non-invasive treatment where wavelengths penetrate beneath the skin to stimulate numerous biological processes within the cells.

It works by the light boosting the mitochondria which then promotes a healthier cellular activity - increasing the mitochondrial count and allowing it to successfully go through the natural stages like glycolysis, the citric acid cycle, and the electron transport chain.

How red light therapy supports women’s health

Aside from the benefits that red light is commonly known for (pain relief, reducing inflammation, and speeding up healing), it has also been found to improve fertility and reproductive health.

This is due to its ability to increase blood circulation to reproductive organs. Egg quality and embryo implantation improve when blood flow is able to get to the uterus and the ovaries. The flow containing oxygen and nutrients helps to make the area as healthy as possible.

This means waste can be quickly transferred away too. Red light is beneficial for decreasing the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines as well. These are the molecules responsible for causing inflammation within the body.

When inflammation is present, it can create an unhealthy environment for conception.

As well as all of these benefits, it has been found to promote stress reduction. While it seems insignificant, stress can adversely affect fertility. So, the calming effects of RLT sessions can create a more conducive area for conception.

How Brittany Ford used red light therapy to boost fertility

After being intrigued by red light, Brittany started using an RLT device every day.

“I incorporated RLT into my daily routine using the Kineon Move+ Pro device, complementing other holistic practices such as clean eating, regular exercise, and mindfulness.”

This was done by applying it one to two times a day, directly on her ovaries for about 20 minutes each session.

“I typically did this while sitting at my desk working, making it easy to integrate into my daily routine.”

The holistic health benefits of light massively appealed to her. “By addressing multiple aspects of health simultaneously, I believed I was creating the best possible conditions for conception.

“And given the success of our journey, I strongly advocate for RLT as a valuable tool in fertility optimization.

“This consistent application played a significant role in supporting my fertility journey by improving circulation, reducing inflammation, enhancing mitochondrial function, balancing hormones, reducing stress, and even improving skin health.”

Medical grade red light therapy device

Brittany used the MOVE+ Pro which is a medical grade light therapy device that is portable and wireless.

The nutritionist explained why she opted for this over others on the market and what she enjoyed about it.

“1. The Kineon Move+ Pro combines red and near-infrared light, which allows for deeper tissue penetration. This dual-wavelength approach ensures that the light reaches the targeted areas effectively.

“2. The device's compact and lightweight design makes it easy to use both at home and on the go. This portability allowed me to integrate therapy sessions seamlessly into my daily routine.

“3. With simple and intuitive controls, the Kineon Move+ Pro is easy to operate, even for those new to Red Light Therapy.

“4. The design of the Kineon Move+ Pro enables focused application on specific areas, such as the ovaries in my case, ensuring precise and effective treatment.

“5. The device offers customizable intensity and duration settings, allowing me to tailor the therapy sessions to my specific needs and preferences.”

Studies about red light therapy for fertility

A study from Denmark has shown that two-thirds of women who previously had failed IVF cycles achieved a successful pregnancy with light therapy.

Several studies have looked at the influence that red light therapy can have on fertility. A Japanese-based researcher studied the application of low-level laser therapy on ‘severely infertile’ women. 74 people were included in the study and 21.7% of those who received red light therapy were able to become pregnant. Of that group, 68% had a successful live delivery.

Brittany Ford’s tips for embarking on a fertility journey

The journey can be long and difficult, especially when information around it is fairly limited online. And people aren’t always open about their experiences.

In contrast, our interviewee has put together a list of six tips to keep in mind throughout the process.

Prioritize holistic health

“Embrace a comprehensive approach to health that includes a balanced diet, regular exercise, adequate sleep, stress management, and mindfulness.

“This holistic foundation supports overall well-being and fertility. Remember that health is multifaceted. Address physical, mental, and emotional aspects to create a balanced and nurturing environment for yourself and your future baby.”

Educate yourself

“Take the time to learn about your body, hormones, and menstrual cycle.

“Understanding your unique health profile can empower you to make informed decisions and seek appropriate treatments.

“Empower yourself with knowledge and take proactive steps to optimize your health. The more informed you are, the better you can advocate for your needs and make effective choices.”

Integrate proven therapies

“Consider integrating evidence-based therapies like Red Light Therapy into your routine.

“Devices like the Kineon Move+ Pro can offer significant benefits for reproductive health and overall wellness.

“Embrace both innovative technologies like the Kineon Move+ Pro and traditional holistic practices. Combining these approaches can offer comprehensive benefits for your health.”

Create a supportive environment

“Surround yourself with supportive people and resources. Whether it's a partner, family, friends, or a healthcare team, having a strong support system can make a big difference in your journey.”

Document your journey

“Keep a journal or checklist to track your health habits, symptoms, and progress. This can help you stay organized, identify patterns, and make necessary adjustments.”

Be patient and kind to yourself

“Fertility journeys can be challenging and unpredictable. Practice patience, self-compassion, and resilience as you navigate this path.

“Maintain a positive and hopeful mindset. Focus on the progress you are making, celebrate small victories, and stay committed to your goals.”
